And in the next moments, he finishes paying for that unthinkable pardon. “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” (Luke 23:46). Dying didn’t give him the authority to forgive — he had that before the world began. No, dying justified what had been happening since the garden (Romans 3:25). God had always been forgiving people through faith; now he had the blood to prove it. Through This Man I remember how idealistic I was amid the mounting challenges the world seemed to be going through in my youthful days, especially in the 60s and 70s. My memories can fade with age, yet some can become more precious. I am older and sentimental enough to have been deeply impacted by the passing of Queen Elizabeth 11 and deeply aware that I will miss her Christmas Day broadcast and the sharing of her personal faith in Jesus Christ. The scribes and Pharisees who heard him were furious: “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (Luke 5:21). They asked the right question, but drew the wrong conclusion. Jesus corrected them, and in an unforgettable way.
Understood this way, confession is not something over and above “believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). Confession is the daily manifestation of faith in Jesus, a daily living out of recognizing Him as Savior, Master, and Treasure, a consistent exhibit of the Gospel of God’s grace.
Kindliness, Mercy, Forgiveness
Like the feeling we have on Christmas morning, a secret delight over the joy that others will have when they receive gifts, imagine waking up one day to find that everything you had ever done that was displeasing to God was wiped away as if it never happened. Wait – we don’t have to imagine that – God’s mercies are new each and every morning and He provided At-One-Ment for our sins. Forever. What a feeling of freedom and joy!
God paid a very dear cost for us to receive the Gift of eternal life through Jesus. He gave His one and only Son so that we could have life. Most of us understand eternal life as being something that we will receive after we die. But that isn't the full meaning. You see ETERNAL means endless, never-ending, everlasting, and timeless. The moment we accept the offer of Jesus' sacrifice of LIFE, we begin our eternal, never ending walk with God. What that means is that God's life, His love, His peace, His joy, His compassion, is NOW part of who we are and as we submit ourselves to Him, the Holy Spirit empowers us to be more and more like Jesus. That's the part of LIVING that I didn't understand for many years of my Christian walk; that I didn't have to survive on my own anymore because the Holy Spirit was IN ME to HELP ME live the Christian life. Are you willing this Christmas to give the gift of forgiveness? If not, are you willing to ask God to help you truly receive His forgiveness so that you are able to forgive others? For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” At Christmastime, I think of the missionaries—elders, sisters, senior missionaries, and mission presidents throughout the world—who, as representatives of Jesus Christ, give freely of their time and service to all mankind. I think of all the brothers and sisters who spend many hours serving faithfully in their callings. Also at this time, I think of all the men and women serving in the military to ensure our safety. Thank you for your service!

The Persecuted Church can teach us something in the West. That is that they have learned to pray, forgive, and love their enemies within their persecution. For us, in the West, it is a challenge to love our families before we can progress to those who spitefully abuse us. This Christmas Season and into 2023, may I respectfully and humbly suggest that we all try and go the extra mile in kindness, forgiveness and courage towards others – we may be surprised how things turn out.
Bennett and Marco Grazzini have no chemistry that I can see. Erin seems like she is constantly escaping the rest of the family to spend time with Mateo. A lot of the situations seemed forced rather than natural. For example,, the restaurant assistant is on a mission to put the two together, even before she knows Erin. The touching chapter in memory of Rendell carries the delightful revelation that the queen of crime was quite partial to country music. According to Winterson, “she’d sing a bit, usually country and western, sometimes Handel … ‘Jolene’ medley’d with hits from Messiah”. But it also becomes clear that Rendell provided Winterson with a haven of unconditional support she had never experienced at home: “I wrote my second novel, The Passion, in her house. She had been the Good Mother – never judging, quietly supporting, letting me talk, letting me be me.” Then my thoughts turned to the person who had in effect killed Alan and I thought gosh, it's Christmas Day, a holy night, and I thought what would Alan have done. He was better at forgiveness than me. For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you” - Matthew 6:14
She was not concerned that she was dying,” Mother says in the book Mother Teresa: My Life for the Poor. “She was not concerned that she was burning with fever. She was not concerned that she was suffering so much. The breaking of her heart was that her son did not want her.”
So joyfully confess your sins before Him – and, forgiven in Christ, live out the true meaning of Christmas. If a man has been silent for nearly a year, when he finally does speak, everyone leans in to listen. So, when his prodigal tongue returned, what did Zechariah say? This is where the tears must have flowed. One of the obstacles to giving forgiveness is that our flesh never wants to do it. I can't tell you how many people have said to me "I wish I could forgive, but I just don't feel like I can." Wishing isn't one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but self-control is! That's the reason that God told us in Deut 3:19 that even though He put the choice of Life and death in front of us, we would have to choose life! It's not something we always feel like doing! James 4:7 says that if we will submit ourselves to God and resist the devil he'll flee. Notice that Satan doesn't flee until after we choose to submit ourselves to God and I can't find anywhere that it says I have to feel like it! Forgiveness is a choice we make in obedience to God's word. It may take a while for our flesh to get over harboring unforgivensess but our spirit man loves it when we choose to follow God!The Infant of Prague offers special graces at Christmastime. If we implore the assistance of the Child Jesus, He will grant us the grace we need to give the gift of forgiveness this Christmas. Luke 7:47 reveals the key to forgiveness.” Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” As I have pondered this question for the last several weeks, having in mind that Christmas is the season to give, three actions—actually three gifts we can each give—came to mind. We, of course, give these gifts throughout the year, but at the wonderful season of Christmas, we remember the Father’s gift of His Son and consider how we might follow Their example as we increase in our individual ability and desire to give.
